Phasing out of conventional light sources

Last year was the year when conventional light sources were phased out: Since August 25, 2023, linear fluorescent lamps T5 and T8 have no longer been allowed to be placed on the market in Europe, as since then the EU directive on the limitation of dangerous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS - Restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment) applies.

Lamps do not necessarily have to be replaced and lamps that have already been purchased can still be put into operation. Electronic craft businesses and dealers are still allowed to sell and install their stocks of lamps. However, you should prepare for the changes, for example when planning systems. Manufacturers and importers must note that they are not allowed to place any further lamps that do not meet the minimum efficiency criteria on the market in the EU after the deadline.

In contrast to halogen lamps, energy-saving lamps, LED lamps (including LED filament lamps) as well as fluorescent tubes or high-pressure discharge lamps fall under the ElektroG and must be disposed of separately, as required by law.

The phase-out process for halogen lamps (halogen pins, G4, GY6.35, G9) started on September 1st. On February 25th, circular fluorescent lamps (T5) and compact fluorescent lamps were phased out. The alternative is energy-efficient and multi-faceted LED lighting for private and commercial use.
